Electromotive assignment #3: “Run on Clouds”

This is my take on assignment #3. The object of the assignment was to take a piece of footage and enhance it with motion graphics. So I took the footage of a girl running and made her run on clouds. Naturally, to make a point out of it, this turned into an unofficial “Nike ACG” commercial. Now, I have no clue what the ACG brand of Nike is, apparently it stands for All Condition Gear, but I thought the logo was cool so I put it in there.

I also discovered Motion Tracking in After Effects. I had seen that effect just floating around and I wanted to give it a shot…it is quite a delight to know that AE will just do that for ya with just a few steps. It’s very easy to use and I can’t wait to do more with it.

I learned a lot making this one, especially and more importantly, how to deal with limitations and how they ultimately drive an idea through to the end. Limitations? Bring ‘em on I say!

By the way, the name of the song is Rebellion(Lies) by The Arcade Fire.

Electromotive Assignment #3. Video Compositing.

It’s time for assignment #3!

Today we decided on our next assignment and it’s video compositing. We take a piece of footage, and lay some motion graphics on top of it to enhance it. Sounds like electromotive material to me!

Deadline for this one: September 29th, 2008.

Assignment #2: Electromotive ID. “Engine”

This is my entry for electromotive’s second assignment.
Since electromotive’s name evokes of something mechanical, I decided to go with a complex look of wires, and things that ultimately I would not understand if I saw them in real life… I know it’s some kind of engine, but that pipe over there that connects to this square thing? No idea what it does. Anyways. Here it is, enjoy.

Electromotive Assignment #2: Electromotive Ident.

Well, it’s time for another assignment!

This time around, we do a little self-promotion. I mean, why not? Electromotive deserves its own voice, so this week we each decided to make Electromotive’s ID.

This assignment is a little bit more complex because it involves, logo design and well…it’s a huge commitment…this is what is going to define Electromotive from now on, so it better look good!

There are no restrictions to this assignment other than “Let’s not make it very long…Something that you can throw at the end of a video”, said Dustin.

I happen to agree so, let’s do it! :)

Deadline, EDIT: Monday September 15th. (You know…so we can have the weekend) ;)

PS: Dustin’s piece for assignment #1 should be up pretty soon, so stay tuned!

Motion Typography Assignment #1: “Radio Lab”

Recently I’ve become obsessed with podcasts. I’m currently subscribed to more than any human being can handle, but one stands out above the bunch. That one is Radio Lab. It’s a show from WNYC public radio about science that is so engaging and so innovative, that just sucks you in.

After Mersh and I discussed this first assignment, I thought about the quirky intro for Radio Lab, and I knew it was a perfect candidate for this. Now I cheated a bit cause the piece is longer than 15 secs…but who’s counting anyway?

So without further ado…here’s Radio Lab:

This is to make electromotive official.

Mersh and I had an idea.

I love motion design. Mersh does too. Why not make stuff together?

This blog is part of it. Let’s see what comes out of this.

Our assignment for this week…Motion typography.

To make a 15 second piece showcasing any copy using just typography and colors.

Our deadline: Monday September 1st, 2008.

We’ll post both of them here. Stay tuned.
